What we did
Lambeth’s events service won the prestigious national “Most Friendly Event” prize at this year’s NOEA Convention Awards for the 2013 Lambeth Country Show.
The Lambeth Country Show has been running for 40 years this year, and is a free community event organised by Lambeth Events service and funded by Lambeth Council.
It is a unique event that celebrates the very best of the city and countryside and takes place in Brockwell Park on the outskirts of Brixton.
In 2013, an estimated 150,000 visitors attended. Results from visitor feedback showed a very high level of satisfaction with it; 56% rated the show as ‘excellent’ and 41% rated it as ‘good’.
A show of this size and scale demands careful planning, organisation and execution. There are many stakeholders to consider and work with to guarantee its success.
From conception to fruition, our events service managed and co-ordinated all aspects of production including visioning, programming and content, site design and layout, stakeholder liaison, traffic management, supplier management, licensing, health and safety, procurement, food hygiene, concession management and on-site management at the event.
Their professionalism and efficiency result in one of the best-attended and environmentally-friendly free events in London’s summer calendar.
The show is split into nine zones, featuring music, art, theatre, sport, food, animals, horticulture and an area dedicated to charity and community groups. We have over 250 traders who are predominantly based in Lambeth as we try to encourage and support local businesses.
In addition, the show is a platform for the community to get involved in the borough and raise awareness around local issues and campaigns through the various zones. Charities and community groups offer advice and ways to get involved.
This year, the event showcased some of the best talent by providing a platform for local Lambeth-based musicians, as well as hosting several international acts.
It is one of our priorities to make the show as green as possible. Each year we increase recycling and encourage our traders to locally source their food and use biodegradable and/or re-usable cutlery and cups.
