Lambeth Communications is a communication trading service set up by Lambeth Council in 2013.

We’re a small but focused team delivering high quality projects, campaigns and strategic communications services. We have got the knowledge, experience and skill to transform your communications service or outputs for the better.

Where it all began

Six years ago, our communications service was a bloated, unfocused, de-centralised unit delivering poor outcomes. The role of communications was passive, reactive and ineffective. And Lambeth – the place and its leadership – had a poor reputation.

Under Julian’s leadership it is now one of the most highly regarded teams in the UK, winning awards for the quality of its campaigning, digital, media and publications.

So what’s changed?

  • The communications team have been centralised, re-modelled and focussed on delivering the political vision.
  • The political vision is delivered through three behaviour change campaigns built on what residents have told us is important to them.
  • Through internal communications, everyone from the top to the bottom of the organisation is clear on what we are working for.
  • Huge savings of more than £1m have been achieved from restructuring the team from 50 to 18 professionals
  • The team is more effective delivering better, stronger outcomes consistently.
  • The reputation of Lambeth Council has improved significantly, and our work has won wide acclaim.
  • The communications division is now highly regarded as an important operation genuinely contributing to the success of the organisation.

There have been many challenges to overcome on our journey, but results have been worth it.

We can support your council to make a similar transition through the services we offer.

We believe…

Communications can improve people’s lives, save money and position a council as a genuine and effective place leader.

The Team

Paul Morris

Head of Business and Creative Development

Paul has a wealth of media and campaign management experience.

An award-winning journalist, communications professional and campaigner, Paul specialises in designing and implementing creative and thought-provoking public sector campaigns and initiatives that get people talking and taking action.

Whilst working in local government, Paul has led many campaigns that have met their desired objectives in such diverse areas as fostering and adoption (improved recruitment), safeguarding children (internet safety), welfare reform (people informed and acting on benefit changes), and the environment (recycling rates up).

In 2013, Paul led a campaign that created noise around the Mayor of London’s intention to close Clapham Fire Station. That campaign was shortlisted for one of the top prizes in local government – the 2014 LGC ‘Campaign on the Year’ Award.
